Archie : 15 month on

My last "baby" update was when Archie was 9 months, he's 15 months now so this is long overdue. A part of me wishes that I'd kept a more detailed monthly update of him (and his big sister) but then thanks to social media I have his milestones written down in the form of a Facebook status. Anyway, let's talk about Archie shall we?

Personality.
Loud. Cheeky. Silly. Drama queen. Stubborn. Happy. Funny. Loving. All of the above could be used to describe the person he's becoming. Cheeky, though is what he is, to the core. I adore this photo of him, just because it shows off the real him. He isn't smiling, this is his "I'm about to do something naughty" face and I believe he did seconds after I took the photo. His new "thing" is to walk along the length of the living room, get half way throw himself on to the floor in the most dramatic way and then start to cry. It's so amusing! The tantrums have just started because he's very stubborn. He won't expect when something won't work like his click clack cars, he uses car's far to big to go down the ramp and then throws huge tantrums which ends in the click clack track being knocked over and him laying on the floor screaming. He will repeat this for ages until finally giving up and just using the cars made for it instead.

Eating habits.
He hates food, okay so not hate, but meal times are a mission. I try to give him the same healthy meals as we get but he won't eat meat (it makes him gag) and alot of veggies are out too. He loves carrots though, and cheese, bread, eggs, grapes, apple, crackers, mash potato, fish fingers and yogurt are some of his favourites too. He still has one bottle of milk a day, before bed and sometimes before a nap during the day.

Milestones.
One of the biggest milestones is walking, he mastered this just after his first birthday, although after taking a few steps he didn't do it again for a few days as crawling was alot easier. He's now up on his feet all the time and close to starting to run!
His speech is still very limited, I am not worried at all about it. He's come on leaps in bounds in many other areas that I personally think this has meant his speech has taken back seat. He's still limited to a few words, dada, mama, nana, yes and hi but he's also learnt a few more, oh look, jack, dog, and brum brum. But on the most part he is still in baby babble mode.
He can use a spoon or fork, keep his attention on one thing for longer periods of time, wave, kiss, blow kisses and one I'm not too pleased about is, he's learnt to get up the stairs!!

Overall he is the most amazing little boy, always happy and smiling (and only sometimes naughty) and I couldn't be more proud of him if I tried.

My pregnancy with Archie

[You can read trimester one here and trimester two here]

Third Trimester.
Week 28.
Today I had my midwife appointment and I am now feeling a little overwhelmed. My bloods came back to show my Iron levels have dropped even lower, the midwife is very concerned about this. She was talking about seeing a consultant and having a blood transfusion which is very terrifing. She's hoping my Iron levels will improve over the next two weeks, but if they drop another 0.2 then she'll be refurring me. As well as this my bump is a little too small meaning a growth scan was booked in for some time in the next week. Until then they are going to monitor my pregnancy a little closer to ensure bug's growth is good.
Week 29.
It has been stupidly hot this week, I feel so hot all the time, there's no escape from it. I hate hot weather at the best of times but it's just making me feel ill. I had my growth scan today, and everything was fine. They are putting the smaller measurment down to the way Bug was lay. It was such a relief! Seeing Bug was amazing as always. Again he has grown so much, he's huge! It's slightly getting me nervous about labour now.
Week 30.
Another midwife appointment - this one was to just double check Bug's growth, even though the scan confirmed he is growing perfectly this was just to double check. He is back to grwoing perfectly so yay! I'm getting alot of pains in my hips and legs, it's made working so much more harder. Physio may be an option but at this point I am going to try some of my own ways and the midwife's advice and see if any of it helps.
Week 34.
I saw the midwife again on Monday. As always I was measured and thankfully bug has carried on growing at a good rate. He's head down now, it's amazing because I can feel what part of his body is where. I know his feet are in / around my ribs as I'm always getting kicked in them! My bloods have got a little better, but seem to drop very quickly. I'm told once baby is born I have to have another lot of blood taken just to check I don't need a blood transfusion. My midwife is convinced I'll be going into labour very soon but I personally think this little bug is going to keep me waiting!
Week 35.
Back in hospital but this time strapped to a monitor. This little Bug likes to scare us! I haven't had movements in a while, second the machine is put on Bug started to dance. The machine was also picking up contractions (or braxton hicks we never did find out which) I couldn't feel them though but it was very strange.
Week 36.
I'm writing this from a hopital bed. It's Tuesday evening and I have just admitted into hospital with all the signs of a stroke. It's been a pretty scary evening to say the least but I have regained the feeling in my left side now and I am just left with this awful headache which the nurses can't seem to shift. I had my bloods taken as soon as I arrived and had them redone about an hour ago. Everything was set for me to go home and then a second doctor arrived and told me it was too risky to send me home so I have been admitted while they set up a MRI brain scan in the morning..
(wednesday) MRI scan went well, I hope to god I never need to have one of those again. I've had more blood taken - the joy - and it's come back showing inflammation levels in my blood which at normal are around 5O.. mine were in the 7O's? I have no clue what any of it means, but I have to spend another night here.
(Thursday) FINALLY HOME. MRI scan came back normal and my bloods were fine so I was sent home yay!
Week 38.
I am fully engaged and told bug could arrive at any moment! It's just hit me how close I am to holding him in my arms. Once again the midwife has told me she's sure this is going to be our last appointment but I don't know. Eva may have been early but I have a feeling this one won't be.
Week 40.
I am still pregnant, and if someone asks me again I shall stick cocktail sticks in their eyes. It's honestly the most annoying question EVER. "Still no baby" "still hanging on is he?" "Have you not had it yet?" "what are you, like 42 weeks now". Sweep booked in for the 29th, I'm just enjoying the final weeks sickness and pain free. Come on baby

Weaning Diary.

7 months old.
Two meals a day
+ snacks.

Breakfast : Baby porriage, I also mixed in a a spoon of his berrie baby cereal for a bit of extra flaour. He loves this (although it looks a little too sticky in this picture, I did add more water before feeding it too him)
Lunch : Yesterday I made apple and pear puree. It was meant to have beetroot but tesco delievered the hot and spicey ones instead of the one's I ordered so I have to skip them.
Snack : Strawberry in his Nuby. I love this thing, I normally give it to him which I am getting on with housework as it keeps him busy and I don't have to worry about him choking!

He also has his milk, I am still breast feeding him on demand, but during the day now he'son food, this tends to be only 3 times and normally around 30 mins after his meals. As of today I am adding a third meal also around 5pm.

Chicken Pox take two.

Chicken pox has reached the littlest baby of the house. Poor Archie woke up yesterday with 3 rather large red blister type stops around the nappy area. I actually thought he was going to have it very mildly and that the 3 spots would be it.. no luck there. He woke up this morning with 5 on his head, and throughout the day more and more have been popping up. He's covered! Eva never got ill with hers I'm hoping the same goes for Archie ; touch wood ; he's very sleepy but very smiley so far.

Weaning.

Yes Archie is really at that stage already, I'm as shocked as you! He's been showing signs of wanting solid food for a while now, and I've been putting it off for two reason's. The first being his age, I wanted him to be at least 6 months and secondly - with is probably a selfish reason - I didn't want him to grow up so quickly, putting him on solid food like admitting he is getting older and is no longer that baby who needed me for everything! Although he still does.
When it comes to weaning I am all for homemade food rather then the vile pots you buy from the shops. Seriously anyone buying those for their child have you tasted them! I brought one for Eva - chicken dinner I believe - and tasted it before I gave it her, It tasted like mashed up cardboard with a hint of cat vomit. I read into baby led weaning and I do plan to do it this way later on, right now though I don't have a high chair, or the room for one so I am sticking to the well known puree method.
I made up three puree's yesterday, Butternut squash, Broccoli and Parsnip. I had a taste of all three and the only one I wasn't happy with was the broccoli  one, I think this might be because there is no salt or pepper so it's very bland. I'll see how Archie takes to this one soon enough.

The first one he had was the butternut squash. His face on the first mouthful was a picture but he soon hoovered it all up and and a huge smile on his face. Yes, he loved it!!

I've been reading up on some recipes for puree's and I'm quite excited by some of them - small things - once he's got the hang of these ones I'll be moving him on to some fruit puree's. I'll be doing many blog posts on this subject mainly for my own personal use and also for anyone who's also weaning their children.
I'll be adding the recipes of any foods I make for him as well, so keep your eyes peeled.

Archie's first swim.

I am whizzing through my "things to do this year" list. Another crossed off, Take Archie swimming for the first time. I'm a little late writing this post as we took him on Sunday (16th march) but hey, better late then never. I got his little swim suit from Matalan for £8. I love it and he looked super cute in it.
The first two minutes of being in the water were spent in tears, him not me, I think this was more the water felt cold and it was a little noisy - he's not a lover of noise - but he soon started to enjoy himself, kicking his legs about in his rubber ring. I took him out of the ring for a short time where he found the edge of the pool was a great place for splashing and of course we both ended up giggling and soaked! His big sister spent alot of time with him splashing in the pool, he was a bit unsure of the water over his head at first but was giggling away with her in no time. He stayed in the water for 20 mins, then we got out as he got cold, but I can say that the first swim went, well "swimmingly" well.
I have no photo's of him in the pool, it's not allowed, which I totally get but it would have been nice.

Archie learns to sit.

Archie has wanted nothing more then to sit up for a while now, if you try to lay him in your arms he will wiggle and moan wanting to sit up. Even while on his play mat he gets frustrated after only a few minutes, so I've started sitting him in either his Bumbo or between my legs so he can play. This week for the first time he started to sit unaided, first for only a few seconds but by the weekend he was doing it for long periods of time! I'm amazed, and slightly tearful at this. Another milestone hit, another reminder he's growing up.

It would seem..

That after 5 months I have hit that broody stage once more and I never thought that day would ever come. Maybe it's because so many people around me are having babies or are pregnant, Or maybe it's because Archie is no longer a new born, he's lost that new born smell and is slowly becoming a "real baby" (what ever that means) I'm shocked that I ever got to this stage again, seeing as I am still in pain from his birth and I'm so not ready mentally to go though pregnancy any time soon. But every part of me aches for another baby. I want to pee on that stick and see that second line, to lay down on that couch while some women puts cold gel on my swollen tummy and searches for a new life in my womb, to feel first kicks, hiccups and stretching.. I can't say labour is something I ever want to put myself through ever again. It hurts ALOT! (that I do remember) however, bringing a new life into the world is very much something I want to do. Maybe not now, but in the years to come. Adding to my family would be amazing.

One year.

Today marks one year since I found out I was pregnant with Archie. It's amazing how fast time has gone. I still remember that day & that moment like it was yesterday. I remember the feeling of picking up the pregnancy test and seeing the second faint line.. I remember doing a double take because I almost put it in the bin without really looking at it. I remember going online and excitedly sharing the news with a group of online friends. It was the beginning of an amazing journey & Although I had the worst pregnancy I enjoyed every second and would give my arm and legs just to re-live each and every second of it.

Archie learns to laugh.

Archie has always been a very vocal baby and for the past 2-3 weeks he's been making laughing sounds but up until a few days ago that's all they were. During our little "play time" and while singing the Soft kitty song from the big bang theory my gorgeous baby boy had his first real giggle. It's fair to say I am one very proud and happy mummy. He has since laughed for his sister, daddy & grandma.
As well as being over the moon I am also slightly sad, it's just another reminder that my baby is growing up!

To do lists

This year - like most year's - I write a list of things I'd like to do, things I'd like to learn and places I'd like to visit. Last year, due to bad sickness during my pregnancy, I only managed a few of the things on my 2013 list. I had a baby, saw my daughter start at school & enjoyed some days out.
So this year I'd like to cross off some if not all of my to do's.
1. Start and keep a blog
2. Learn to knit.
3. Make my house more homely.
4. Visit the beach
5. Visit a zoo.
6. Take Archie swimming for the first time.
7. Bake at least once a week.
..
First one is done, so I am now on to learning to knit. This one I am looking forward to, learning a new skill or talent is always a positive thing to do. Not only that but with two children, one who's very much into dolls and is always wanted a new outfit for them and the other who wear's alot of knitted jumpers, it's the perfect skill to learn. I used to do a bit of knitting, so I guess it's something I already can do, however I've never made anything only done a few stitches. So this year I want to make some knitted things..

First week of January.

Has already come and gone, and so far this month has been great. Eva heads back to school tomorrow, am I looking forward to early mornings again? No, especially not in this weather!! Eva on the other hand couldn't be more excited about going back to see her friends. Infact, since leaving for the school holidays on the 20th December she's asked every day if it's time to go back. I love that she enjoys school so much and I love hearing how fantastically  she's doing. She's a little bright spark that's for sure.

So from tomorrow it's just me and Archie, it's going to be strange. I have no clue what we shall do.. Baking is a must of course, though Archie being only 14 weeks old means he won't be much help just yet. I can see alot of snuggling going on together though.

Anyway back to this week, it's been spent mainly with the children. Bike riding, playing and having fun.

and not forgetting the green bath & the big bang theory
